LONDONRockRose has agreed to acquire Speedwell Energy’s 100% interest in the Cotton gas field (ex-Carna) in the UK southern North Sea, subject to regulatory approvals.

The field was discovered in 2009: well 43/21b-5Z encountered a gas column of close to 1,260 ft (384 m) over six gas-bearing sandstone units.

Speedwell estimates the recoverable resources at 97 bcf with potential to produce up to 70 MMcf/d through two horizontal development wells.

The company has prepared a draft field development plan for submission to Britain’s Oil and Gas Authority and is in talks with potential contractors and the owners of the proposed export infrastructure.

Prior to taking a final investment decision, RockRose said it would perform further studies to ensure sound subsurface delivery and project economics, in light of current gas price pressures.

Cotton is 100 km (62 mi) east of Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast, between the Kilmar and Garrow fields in which RockRose has a 15% interest.
