TGS expands Aker BP digital deal, advances West Africa seismic projects

TGS has extended its Prediktor Data Gateway agreement with Aker BP to support digital offshore operations in Norway while also launching major seismic reprocessing programs offshore Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau aimed at improving imaging of prospective deepwater acreage.

Why this news matters:

  • The Aker BP agreement highlights continued investment in offshore digitalization, remote operations and data-driven production management in the North Sea.

  • The Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau projects could improve understanding of underexplored deepwater acreage and support future licensing and exploration decisions in West Africa.

  • Advanced seismic reprocessing technologies may help operators identify previously obscured exploration targets and reduce subsurface uncertainty.

TGS has extended a digital operations agreement with Aker BP for Norway’s Yggdrasil development while launching major seismic reprocessing programs offshore Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau aimed at improving exploration and subsurface imaging in West Africa.

Aker BP expands digital operations partnership

TGS has lengthened its agreement with Aker BP for the Prediktor Data Gateway service offshore Norway.

The collaboration started in 2024 for the multi-field Yggdrasil development in the North Sea.

Aker BP chose to incorporate Prediktor Data Gateway into its digital regime, supporting remote operations, unmanned production platforms and data-driven work processes.

Under the new agreement, TGS said, the service will continue to provide secure and reliable access to real-time data from operational technology systems.

It is designed to standardize how process data is compiled, structured and made accessible to enterprise systems, analytics and digital applications, the company added.

The service collects high-resolution operational data from sensors, devices, machines and automation systems.

TGS claims Prediktor Data Gateway helps clients reduce integration complexity while retaining flexibility across their existing and future systems.

The agreement was signed at the ONS event last month.

TGS advances seismic reprocessing offshore West Africa

In other developments, TGS, in partnership with Côte d’Ivoire’s Direction Générale des Hydrocarbures and PETROCI, has started work on the offshore MC3D Vision PSDM reprocessing project.

This involves reprocessing 14,691 sq km of GeoStreamer 3D data from various surveys that TGS acquired during 2014-2018 over the deepwater Côte d'Ivoire and San Pedro Basins.

The program will address imaging challenges issues associated with complex deepwater geology, including velocity variations in the overburden that can obscure deeper exploration targets and compromise amplitude fidelity, the company explained.

Use of modern pre-processing, advanced velocity model building and Kirchhoff PSDM imaging should improve definition of reservoir intervals and stratigraphic features across the offshore Côte d'Ivoire margin.

Fast-track products should be available in Q2 2027, followed by final products in Q4.

To the northwest, TGS has signed an agreement with Empresa Nacional de Pesquisa e Exploração Petrolíferas E.P. (PetroGuin), giving it the rights to reprocess the JAAN 3D seismic dataset across Guinea-Bissau on a multi-client basis.

TGS will reprocess over 11,000 sq km of 3D seismic data, building on its previous 2019 PSDM reprocessing, in collaboration with GeoPartners.

It will deploy imaging technologies such as elastic dynamic-matching full waveform inversion and Kirchhoff pre-stack depth migration (KPSDM) to deliver an uplift in image quality.

This should help clients assess clastic and carbonate targets across the margin, ahead of future exploration.

Final products should be released in Q4 2027.
