Equinor has discovered more hydrocarbons close to the Åsgard gas-condensate complex in the Norwegian Sea.

The Transocean Encourage semisubmersible rig drilled well 6506/12-PB-3 H in PL 094 to test the Smørbukk Midt prospect, in between the Smørbukk and Smørbukk Sør fields.

Early analysis suggests the find contains 6.3 MMboe to 18.9 MMboe recoverable, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate reported Aug. 29.

It added that licensees are considering a tie-in development to Smørbukk Sør.

This was the 15th exploration well on PL 094 since the license was awarded in March 1984. The well encountered a 54-m condensate/light oil column in sandstone in the Garn Formation, and gas/condensate in the Ile Formation.

Transocean Encourage will now drill production well 6506/12-PB-3 AH in the Garn Formation at the same location.
