LUANDA, Angola -- Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol) and total E&P Angola have recorded a new oil discovery at the Alho-1 well on block 32 offshore Angola. The well is in the northeast part of the block some 9 km (5.6 mi) from the earlier Cominhos-1 discovery earlier this year.
In 1,607 m (5,272 ft) of water, the well was tested at 5,400 b/d. Evaluation studies are under way.
Sonangol is the concessionaire. Total holds a 30% as operator. Other partners are Marathon Oil Co. (30%), Sonangol E.P. (20%), Esso Exploration and Production Angola (Overseas) Ltd (15%) and Galp Exploração (5%).
