STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro has failed to find oil with its latest wildcat in the Norne area of the Norwegian Sea.

The semisubmersibleOcean Vanguard drilled well 6608/8-2 in the Bjork prospect, 33 km (20.5 mi) north of the Norne field in production license 352, in 337 m (1,106 ft) of water. It intersected several reservoir zones in the targeted Cretaceous rocks, but there were no indications of hydrocarbons.

This was the first exploratory well in the license, awarded under Norway's APA 2004 round. StatoilHydro says it will use the results to improve understanding of its reservoir model. The rig is moving on to a shipyard for a classification survey.
