OSLO, Norway --Hydro has made a small oil find close to its producing Grane field in the Norwegian North Sea. Exploratory well 25/11-24 in production license 169 was targeting oil in a Tertiary prospect called Midway, southwest of Grane. Its secondary target was the underlying Jurassic stratigraphic sequence.

In the event, the semisubmersibleTransocean Winner found oil in Jurassic sandstone, but only minor traces of hydrocarbons in the Tertiary age rocks. Hydro was disappointed with the outcome, but will pursue further Jurassic potential in this area.

The rig is set to move to production license 090 to drill another well for Hydro, close to the Fram field.
