OSLO, Norway -- ConocoPhillips Skandinavia has failed to prove hydrocarbons with its latest exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea. Well 8/10-3, drilled by the Maersk Gallant, was the first wildcat in production license 331, awarded under Norway’s APA 2004 licensing round. The location was 25 km (15.5 mi) southeast of the BP-operated Ula field.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the aim was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Permian Rotliegendes group (the Auk formation). The well in a water depth of 67 m (220 ft) to a vertical depth of 5,692 m (18,674 ft) and was terminated in the Auk formation.
Maersk Gallant has since transferred to the Ekofisk field to drill production wells for ConocoPhillips.
