Atwood orders two new jackup rigs

Atwood Oceanics Pacific Ltd. has signed turnkey construction agreements with PPL Shipyard PTE Ltd. for the supply of two Pacific Class 400 jackup drilling rigs.

HOUSTON — Atwood Oceanics Pacific Ltd. has signed turnkey construction agreements with PPL Shipyard PTE Ltd. for the supply of two Pacific Class 400 jackup drilling rigs. The rigs are to be rated for 400 ft (122 m) water depth with accommodations for 150 personnel. Deliveries are scheduled for Sept. 30 and Dec. 31 of 2012.

Total cost for each rig is about $190 million, says Atwood, including project management, drilling and handling tools, spares, and capitalized interest.

The agreements also make optional provision for Atwood to order three more such rigs, but no decision has been made as yet.
