LONDON -- Hoang Long Joint Operating Co. has discovered hydrocarbons in its latest appraisal well on the Te Giac Den prospect off southern Vietnam.

Well TGD-2X, drilled on block 16-1 in the Cuu Long basin, encountered hydrocarbons in a clastics sequence at a measured depth of around 4,450 m (14,600 ft). The well reached TD of 4,669 m (15,416 ft) after penetrating the target hydrocarbon zone in the Oligocene `E’ formation.

According to partner SOCO International, logging operations continue, with drilling shows and early log interpretation indicating two main reservoir sand intervals. Around 40 m (131 ft) will be tested after a 7-in. liner has been set and cemented.

SOCO adds that testing should take three weeks to complete.
