ABERDEEN, UK -- XCite Energy’s latest appraisal well on the heavy oil Bentley field in the UK North Sea has reached total depth for the second part of the planned work program, the horizontal section.
Well 9/3b-6z is at 7,085 ft (2,159 m) measured depth, and has successfully tracked the top of the reservoir. This was encountered at 3,618 ft (1,103 m) TVD subsea, around 18 ft (5.5 m) higher than the pre-well prognosis of 3,636 ft (1,108 m) TVD, thereby extending the oil column.
Petrophysical analysis is under way to confirm net to gross oil pay. XCite expects to complete and test this horizontal section by end-November.
Bentley oil field is in block 9/3b in license 1078, roughly 160 km (9.4 mi) east of the Shetland Isles.
