TRONDHEIM, Norway -- The newbuild semisub Aker Barents is drilling the Storlakken prospect in the Norwegian North Sea for Det norske oljeselskap. Well 25/1-11 in production license PL 460 was spud on Dec. 31- Detnor’s aim is to find oil that can be tied back to a future production installation on the Frøy field, thereby improving the Frøy project economics.
The rig has completed the top section of the well and will sail to shore to assemble six hydraulic cylinders that had to be dismantled and sent for repair during the Christmas period. Under the terms of the contract, Det norske will not pay rig dayrates during the time of the repair.
As a result of the yard-stay, the Storklakken well will likely be completed in mid-March, several weeks behind schedule.
