The well discovered gas and oil in Tertiary reservoir sandstones and extensive data collection is currently underway, the company says. The license partners are planning a sidetrack to delineate the discovery and determine hydrocarbon fluid types and overall size of the new field.

The drillship Stena Carron drilled the well to a true vertical depth of 2,743 m (8,999 ft) in the Lamba formation.

The participants in the Tornado well are OMV (35% interest), Dana Petroleum (30% interest), Dong Energy (20% interest), Faroe Petroleum (7.5% interest), and Idemitsu E&P (7.5% interest).
