SYDNEY, Australia -- The Cá Rồng Đỏ (Red Emperor) exploration well offshore Vietnam has proved oil, according to partner Pan Pacific Petroleum. The well encountered oil and gas shows while drilling. Wire line logging has now begun to determine the net pay and nature of the hydrocarbons, the company says.

The semisubmersible Hakurya-5 drilled the well to a measured depth of 3,810 m (12,500 ft) BRT intersecting target intervals.

Premier Oil Vietnam South BV operates the well with a 30% working interest.
