ExxonMobil Philippines and Mitra Energy plan to start drilling operations in the Sulu Sea in the fourth quarter.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- ExxonMobil Philippines and Mitra Energy plan to start drilling operations in the Sulu Sea in the fourth quarter.

Drilling could cost up to $100 million, according to the 2009 work program submitted to the Sulu Provincial Government Energy Department. ExxonMobil and Mitra each hold a 50% interest in the contract area.

The drilling area covers 8,620 hectares in the Sulu Sea off the Philippines.
