Oil and gas find for Det norske in Norwegian Sea

Det norske oljeselskap has discovered oil and gas in the Skaugumsåsen prospect in the Norwegian Sea, 10 km (6.2 mi) south of the Norne field.

TRONDHEIM, Norway – Det norske oljeselskap has discovered oil and gas in the Skaugumsåsen prospect in the Norwegian Sea, 10 km (6.2 mi) south of the Norne field.

Well 6508/1-2, the first on license 48, intersected an 18-m (59-ft) gas column and a 23-m (75-ft) oil column. Preliminary estimates suggest 1 MMcmoe (≈6.285 MMbbl) recoverable, although further studies are needed to determine whether the find is commercial.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the well proved gas and oil in the Tilje/Åre formations with reservoir properties as expected.

The semisubmersible Aker Barents drilled the well in 395 m (1,296 ft) of water. It will be permanently P&A’d. Next assignment for the rig is wildcat well 7124/4-1S in the Barents Sea, operated by GDF SUEZ Norge.
