TRONDHEIM, Norway – Det norske oljeselskap has discovered oil and gas in the Skaugumsåsen prospect in the Norwegian Sea, 10 km (6.2 mi) south of the Norne field.
Well 6508/1-2, the first on license 48, intersected an 18-m (59-ft) gas column and a 23-m (75-ft) oil column. Preliminary estimates suggest 1 MMcmoe (≈6.285 MMbbl) recoverable, although further studies are needed to determine whether the find is commercial.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the well proved gas and oil in the Tilje/Åre formations with reservoir properties as expected.
The semisubmersible Aker Barents drilled the well in 395 m (1,296 ft) of water. It will be permanently P&A’d. Next assignment for the rig is wildcat well 7124/4-1S in the Barents Sea, operated by GDF SUEZ Norge.
