OSLO, Norway – The semisub Aker Barents has started drilling the Heilo prospect in license PL 530 in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
GDF SUEZ E&P Norge operates the license, in partnership with Front Exploration, North Energy, Rocksource, and Repsol.
The acreage, covering parts of blocks 7123/6 and 7124/4, is on the southern part of the Bjarmeland Platform/eastern edge of the Hammerfest basin. According to Rocksource, the prospect is on trend with the Goliat and Tornerose discoveries to the west and the Nucula discovery to the southeast.
Several prospects have been identified in the license, with prospectivity present at multiple reservoir levels. Prior to application Rocksource tested the main prospects in the license by acquiring controlled source electromagnetic data.
Rocksource estimates Heilos’ primary target contain propsective resources of 200 MMboe, with a better than 50% chance of success.
