LUXEMBOURG – Petrobras has awarded Pacific Drilling a three-year contract for use of its ultra-deepwater drillship Pacific Mistral offshore Brazil.

The contract should start during 4Q 2011, with estimated revenues, including mobilization and client-requested modifications, of $536 million.

Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the newbuild vessel in June. It is capable of operating in water depths of up to 12,000 ft (3,657 m) and drilling wells 37,500 ft (11,430 m) deep.

Pacific Drilling expects to take delivery of an additional drillship this fall and has two drillships on order at Samsung for delivery during 2013.
