Statoil gets clearance to drill Knappen offshore Norway

Statoil has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority to drill the Knappen prospect in the central Norwegian North Sea, using the semisubmersible Songa Trym.

OSLO, NorwayStatoil has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority to drill the Knappen prospect in the central Norwegian North Sea, using the semisubmersible Songa Trym.

Drilling of well 16/7-11 in 80.5 m (264 ft) of water in block 16/7 (exploration licenses PL 072 B and PL 072 D) is expected to start next month.

If there is a discovery, a side track will also be drilled and the well will be production-tested.
