PERTH, Australia  Western Gas provided operational updates June 3 on the drilling of the Sasanof-1 exploration well off Western Australia, and the company planned drilling through the target reservoir sand section over the past weekend.

As an additional update, on June 6, Western Gas said its Sasanof-1 exploration well found no hydrocarbons.

The updates on June 3 stated the marine riser and well control BOP had been installed, connecting the Valaris MS-1 rig to the Sasanof-1 high-pressure wellhead housing, and the system was being pressure and function tested. The 12-1/4-inch bottomhole drilling assembly was run in hole to drill out of the 13-3/8-inch shoe track cement, and integrity tests were conducted. This was followed by drilling of the 12-1/4-inch target hole section from the current depth of 2,072 m to an estimated total depth of 2,500m TVDBRT.
