HAMILTON, Bermuda – Sonadrill Holding, the joint venture between Seadrill and an affiliate of Sonangol E.P., has secured a long-term contract for the ultra-deepwater drillship Sonangol Quenguela offshore Angola.

The $131-million contract, due to run from 1Q 2022 to 3Q 2023, is for 12 wells, with one option for nine wells and 11 one-well options.

Award is contingent on National Concessionaire approval.

The Sonangol Quenguela is the second of two Sonangol-owned drillships to be bareboat chartered by Sonadrill. The 7th generation, DP-3, dual activity, e-smart vessel, delivered in 2019, can drill wells up to 40,000 ft (12,192 m) long.

A further two Seadrill-owned rigs will likely be bareboat chartered by the JV, with Seadrill managing and operating all four on behalf of Sonadrill.
