North Sea Southwark drilling halted again
Offshore staff
LONDON – IOG plc has had to suspend development drilling once more at the Southwark gas field in the UK southern North Sea.
After previous delays due to problems with the rig and inspection, the jackup Noble Hans Deul has encountered problems with seabed conditions since spudding the well at the end of December.
If the issues are not resolved, rig stability could be compromised.
Last Friday Noble advised temporary re-location of the rig to allow for seabed remediation and the safe continuation of drilling operations to minimize safety and integrity risks.
The rig will remain offshore with non-essential crew and equipment demobilized until the problem has been rectified.
Petrofac is overall manager for drilling operations.
