LONDON – IOG expects drilling to resume on the Southwark gas field in the UK southern North Sea in mid-April.

Rock dumping around the seabed location should be completed today, providing a stable foundation for the return of the jackup Noble Hans Deul.

First gas from Southwark should now follow during the fall.

The Blythe and Elgood gas fields, which came onstream earlier this month, are producing through the normally unmanned Blythe platform which is connected via a 12-in. subsea pipeline to the main 24-in. Saturn Banks pipeline system: this delivers the gas to reception facilities at the Bacton terminal on the Norfolk coast.

A chemical injection fault has led to a temporary shut-in of the Blythe well, but rectification measures are planned later this week. There have also been some early mechanical issues on the Blythe platform, although continues to produce steadily at over 50 MMcf/d.
