LONDONNeptune Energy has updated its volume estimate for the Dugong discovery in the Norwegian North Sea, based on results from a successful appraisal well (34/4-16 S).

The company also achieved its main objective of establishing the oil-water contact.

Neptune now estimates 40-108 MMboe recoverable, although this will be subject to further analysis and review. A drillstem test on the well will also follow.

The partners plan a development either to nearby offshore infrastructure or as a stand-alone facility.

Dugong, 158 km (98 mi) west of Florø in 330 m (1,082 ft) of water, is close to production facilities serving the Snorre and Statfjord fields.

The reservoir is at depth of 3,250-3,500 m (10,663-11,483 ft). Well 34/4-16 S was designed to delineate last year’s discovery in the Rannoch formation via wells 34/4-15 S and 34/4-15 A.

Other partners in the Dugong license are Petrolia NOCO, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, and Concedo.
