OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) is investigating a lifting incident that occurred on Wednesday onboard the Cat J jackup Askeladden.

KCA Deutag Drilling Norge has been operating the rig on behalf of Equinor at the Gullfaks field in the North Sea.

During lifting of a transport hose for drilling fluids, the hose fell and hit a crew member working in the vicinity. The individual had to be flown to land for medical treatment.

The PSA plans to seek clarification on the course of events and the scope of the incident and to assess its actual and potential consequences.

Its team will also identify direct and underlying causes and identify any non-conformities with regulations and required improvement points.

Norway’s police have launched a separate investigation and will receive petroleum-related technical support from the PSA.
