TEHRAN, Iran – MAPNA Drilling Co.’s jackup MD-1 has started drilling for Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field development in the Persian Gulf.
Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) official Mohsen Rezaei, who heads the development project, told news service Shan that the rig is stationed alongside the SPD11B jacket, which was installed in late May.
Drilling will be conducted in two stages; under the first the rig will drill and complete five appraisal/development wells from the platform, designed to deliver a total of 500 MMcf/d.
A further seven development wells will then be drilled, pushing gas recovery from the platform to 1 bcf/d.
Petropars Co. is the main contractor for the surface and subsurface facilities. All the gas will be exported to the South Pars onshore refineries.
Following the development, POGC will add pressure boosting facilities to extend sustainable production.
