SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has proven further hydrocarbons close to last year’s Ken Bau discovery in the Song Hong basin offshore central Vietnam.

The latest well, Ken Bau 2X, was drilled in block 114, was drilled 2 km (1.2 mi) from the discovery well in 95 m (312 ft) water depth and to a TD of 3,658 m (12,001 ft) below sea level.

It encountered more than 110 m (361 ft) of pay in Miocene sandstone intervals interbedded with shale.

The program included two mini drillstem tests and extensive fluid sampling. Early analysis suggests the Ken Bau accumulation contains in-place raw gas of 7-9 tcf, with 400-500 MMbbl of associated condensates.

Eni Vietnam operates the block with a 50% share, the remainder held by Essar E&P. They plan additional drilling and testing on Ken Bau and further drilling and seismic activity in - Eni operates neighboring block 116 with a 100% share.

Vietnam, the company pointed out, is pushing ahead with gas-to-power plants supplied by domestic resources and, in the future, imported LNG. Ken Bau could provide a fasttrack solution to help satisfy energy demand.
