BERGEN, NorwayPSW Group’s capping stack division has completed its first international operation, for a deepwater well offshore Egypt.

Edison’s E&P Ameeq-1X was the company’s first well on its North Thekah concession, 130 km (81 mi) offshore from the Nile Delta.

PSW, working with Edison’s emergency response team, prepared logistics and response plans to mobilize and deploy the stack in Egypt if required from the Mongstad offshore supply base in western Norway.

Analysis suggested the stack could arrive at the wellsite as fast any other system, even if flown to Egypt.

Ameeq-1X was drilled in around 1,000 m (3,281 ft) of water, the deepest of any well supported by PSW to date.

A capping stack is a well closure device that connects to the top of a BOP, capable of sealing off a well if the BOP fails.

PSW is also involved in alliances with Intermoor and Exceed Well Management for deployment and incident support internationally from quayside to wellsite.
