CNOOC finds oil in emerging play offshore China

HONG KONGCNOOC has discovered oil in the Kenli 6-1 structure in Bohai Bay, offshore China.

The company believes this could be the first oil find in the Laibei lower uplift in the southern Bohai basin. Water depth is around 19.2 m (63 ft).

Well KL6-1-3, drilled to a depth of 1,596 m (5,236 ft), and encountered 20 m (65.6 ft) of oil pay zones. On test, the well flowed 1,178 b/d.

The result underlined the huge exploration potential of the Neogene lithologic reservoir in the Laizhou Bay, CNOOC added.
