CLUCETH, UK – Engineering consultancy Astrimar has signed a collaboration agreement with Rawwater Engineering.

Rawwater invented the bismuth plug and has worked with Astrimar on two Innovate UK projects to qualify advanced bismuth alloys for P&A and other sealing applications.

The company has developed various alloys specifically formulated for P&A, tested under simulated service pressures and temperatures. Their operating envelopes are said to cover a variety of typical downhole geothermal conditions and sealing applications.

Astrimar has developed the STEM-flow tool, predictive well integrity modeling software that can forecast long-term plug performance, reflecting the downhole well and casing conditions and plug material behavior obtained from qualification tests.

This should provide reliability and integrity assurance for Rawwater’s bismuth plugs, with the predictions from Astrimar’s numerical models used to support well P&A design risk assessments.

The two parties plan to offer a combined plug service, with well-specific seal performance forecasts.
