Deepwater Horizon: 2nd containment system at work

Oil and gas is now flowing from BP’s Deepwater Horizon spill site in the Gulf of Mexico into a second containment system.

HOUSTON – Oil and gas is now flowing from BP’s Deepwater Horizon spill site in the Gulf of Mexico into a second containment system. This second system is in addition to the lower marine riser package cap which has been in place.

The new system connects directly to the BOP and feeds flow into the Q4000 vessel at the surface where it is sent to a specialized burning system. First production through the new system reached the Q4000 at midday today.
