In the last five years deepwater reserves totaling 5 Bboe were brought onstream. In the next five years prospects totaling 20 Bboe are expected to be developed.

In the last five years deepwater reserves totaling 5 Bboe were brought onstream. In the next five years prospects totaling 20 Bboe are expected to be developed. A significant amount is expected in water depths beyond 2,000 m, said Christopher Barton, vice president for Pennwell and group publisher of Offshore Magazine in opening remarks at Pennwell's first Ultra Deep Engineering Technology (UDET) conference in Brest, France yesterday.
More than 300 attendees representing 17 countries attended. The UDET concept offers a unique and intimate forum for those who have high-concept, long-range visions and ideas on future exploration, development, and production in the water depths beyond 2,500 m, said Barton. Wells are now drilling in almost 3,000 m of water. Sponsors for the conference include TotalFinaElf, Multiphase Solutions, Oceano Technologies, and Baker Oil Tools. Speakers representing industry leaders, such as Intec Engineering, Kerr-McGee, Baker Oil Tools, and Cooper Cameron appeared.
