HOUSTON  Dril-Quip has installed an 18 ¾-inch BigBore IIe, its newest subsea wellhead system, for the Petrobras Exploratory project in the Aram Block in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil.

Water depth is 2,002 m.

According to Dril-Quip, the system’s sealing technology is qualified to the latest Petrobras standards. It is designed to reduce costs through dispensing with the need for drilling or production lockdown devices, which in turn limits the number of trips associated with drilling the well.

The technology has been fatigue tested to more than 90 million bending cycles with 2 MMlb of gas-tight hanger lockdown capacity to resist thermal and pressure loads.

BigBore IIe comes in pressure capacities of 15,000 psi/27-inch (SS15) and 20,000 psi/30-in. (SS20), and it can be supplied with legacy profiles or the company’s DXe locking profile.

Both 16-inch and 18-inch casing, casing hangers and seal assemblies can pass through the 21-inch OD drilling riser, 18-3/4-inch BOP stack and the wellhead housing.
