P&A, subsea structure retrieval concludes at three Woodside fields offshore northwest Australia
Woodside crews aboard the TechnipFMC-operated Deep Orient vessel completed a large-scale decommissioning campaign last month offshore Western Australia.
The year-long campaign covered the Griffin and Stybarrow fields, and the Echo Yodel subsea tieback to the Goodwyn A platform, all of which are located offshore the northwestern part of the state.
These fields ceased production in 2009, 2015 and 2012, respectively.
Following plug and abandonment (P&A) of the wells, the teams recovered 4,000 mt of subsea infrastructure, including 73 km of pipelines, and 37 subsea equipment items include including christmas trees, buoys, wellheads and umbilical termination assemblies.
The previously removed Griffin riser turret mooring, which formerly secured an FPSO, was deconstructed last year at the Australian Marine Complex in Western Australia last year, with about 93% of the near-2,500 mt structure undergoing reuse and recycling.
Elsewhere in 2025, crews working for Woodside completed a multi-year decommissioning program at the Enfield Field, 38 km north of the North West Cape, Western Australia.
In this case, the program included permanent P&A of all 18 wells at the Enfield development, recovery and deconstruction of the Nganhurra riser turret mooring, and removal of flexible flowlines, umbilicals and other subsea structures.
This was Woodside’s first full life-cycle project from exploration through development and operations to final decommissioning, with 99.6% of the materials from the riser turret mooring reused, repurposed or recycled.
