ZWIJNDRECHT, Netherlands -- Heerema Vlissingen has completed the construction of the Hasdrubal oil and gas platform. The topside has been loaded out quayside in Vlissingen for transport to the Gulf of Gabes, offshore Tunisia.
Construction of the 2,450-ton (2,223-metric ton) platform started in June 2007 at the Heerema Vlissingen yard and took 300,000 man hours.
The topside has five decks and measures 46 x 30 x 29 m (151 x 98 x 95 ft). The 70-m (230-ft) jacket weighs 1,000 tons (907 metric tons).
The Hasdrubal platform will be installed in a water depth of 60 m (197 ft) approximately 110 km (68 mi) offshore Tunisia. BG Tunisia is the operator of Hasdrubal and owns the field together with ETAP. The platform is expected to be operational in 2009.
"Our reputation for high quality workmanship, securing schedule, and budget were the main reasons for BG Tunisia to award us this extended EPIC contract," says Wim Matthijssen, MD of Heerema Vlissingen. "Without our highly motivated team in Vlissingen this was not feasible. The dedication and expertise of our people to accomplish this very challenging project again prove our strength. Also noteworthy is that we completed the project without a single lost time injury."
