Santos contracts Worley for Bayu-Undan carbon capture studies

Santos has awarded Worley a contract to support its Bayu-Undan carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the Timor Sea.

Santos is the only Australian partner in Darwin LNG, and it has a large discovered resource base across Northern Australia and Timor-Leste.

NORTH SYDNEY, Australia — Santos has awarded Worley a contract to support its Bayu-Undan carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the Timor Sea.

Worley will provide FEED services for the Bayu-Undan offshore facilities and pipeline, including repurposing of the Bayu-Undan complex and the offshore section of the gas export pipeline from hydrocarbons to CO₂ service.

In addition, it will perform FEED work for the life extension of the complex and pipeline to enable continued secure and reliable operations.

Santos expects the CCS project to store up to 10 MMmetric tons per year of CO₂, representing about 1.5% of Australia’s annual carbon emissions. It could potentially become one of the world’s largest CCS developments.

Worley will manage the program from its offices in Perth, with support from the company’s global teams.
