OTC 2018: DNV GL to recognize FPSO repair technique
DNV GL has approved in principle the repair of offshore corroded deck plating using ColdShield, a bonded composite product developed by Cold Pad.
HOUSTON – DNV GL has approved in principle the repair of offshore corroded deck plating using ColdShield, a bonded composite product developed by Paris-based Cold Pad.
This is a composite structural reinforcement specifically developed for harsh environments of offshore units such as FPSOs.
According to the company, the ColdShield-Metal design protects the surface from further corrosion and strengthens the surface locally, potentially also contributing to global strength.
DNV GL’s Approval in Principle (AIP) confirms that the design is feasible, achievable, and that the product can behave in accordance with its specifications.
The technique therefore becomes the first non-welded structural repair for a corroded FPSO hull as per DNV GL rules, Cold Pad claimed.
The company developed the technology with Total and IFP Energies nouvelles. By removing any hot work techniques, it is said to provide a safe, reliable, and durable solution for FPSOs undergoing offshore structural maintenance.
