WASHINGTON, D.C. --BP has won the Computerworld Honors Award in the Environment, Energy, and Agriculture category. This is the first time an oil company has won this award, according to BP. Previously, only Shell and Valero made it to the finals in this category.

Of the 50 finalists in 10 categories, BP won the award for its Hurricane Management System developed by the company's Gulf of Mexico Strategic Performance Unit in partnership with Microsoft.

The Computerworld Honors Program was established in 1988 to recognize the contributions of people and organizations in IT excellence, according to the program committee.
