Damaged Sakhalin buoy leaks oil

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia --Storms around north-east Russia last week may have damaged the single anchor leg mooring (SALM) buoy used to offload oil from the Sakhalin II development.

The conditions caused production at the Vityaz platform complex off the north-east Sakhalin coast to be suspended, and theOkha floating storage and offtake vessel to be disengaged.

According to operator Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, the damage to the SALM came to light during preparations to re-connect theOkha. It also resulted in some oil quantities being released into the sea. Oil spill response and other vessels are on location to prevent any further accidental discharges.
