Saipem wins drilling contracts offshore Egypt and Congo

Saipem has won three drilling contracts, one offshore Egypt and two offshore Congo.

MILAN, Italy -- Saipem has won three drilling contracts, one offshore Egypt and two offshore Congo.

Burullus Gas Co. and its shareholders, BG Group, Petronas and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS), assigned the Egyptian contract to Saipem. The contract covers two years for charter of the semisubmersible drilling rigScarabeo 6.

Drilling will be off the coast of Egypt between 3Q 2007 and 3Q 2009.Scarabeo 6 is a third generation semisubmersible capable of operating in 780 m (2,559 ft) water depth and drilling to 7,500 m (24,606 ft).

Beginning in 4Q 2007, Eni Congo will charter a tender-assisted drilling unit to carry out operations off the coast of Congo for five years.

Separately, Eni Congo has contracted Saipem for workover activities to be executed using equipments owned by the client. The contract starts in Q4 2006 and will last for three years.
