ALMATY --The Agip KCO consortium has contracted Foster Wheeler Italiana for environmental engineering and consultancy services in the Kazakh sector of the North Caspian Sea.

The Caspian Sea is a protected natural environment with water flowing in from over 100 small and large rivers. Agip KCO has a commitment to conduct its operations in compliance with Kazakh laws and international regulations concerning the environment.

Foster Wheeler will provide support to the consortium in implementing best practices and technologies, and in developing solutions to minimize discharges and emissions from the Kashagan development.

It will also supply technical support to help ensure that any project-induced variation is properly detected, and to assist the definition and speedy implementation of mitigation measures. This extends to development of environmental impact assessments, design of water treatment plants, evaluation of contaminated or abandoned sites, and remediation plans.

Local support will come from Bacek LLC, a joint venture between the Kazakh Agency of Applied Ecology and Boots & Coots Well Control subsidiary Bacel S.p.A, a specialist in emergency response services.
