Absheron partners sanction full-field development of Caspian Sea gas field
TotalEnergies and partners SOCAR and XRG have taken FID on the Full Field Development of the Absheron gas/condensate field offshore Azerbaijan.
Absheron, 100 km south-east of Baku, contains an estimated the Absheron 140 bcm of recoverable gas reserves.
The initial development, an early production scheme which went onstream in July 2023, was a 35-km subsea tieback of the ABD-001 well to a shallow-water platform, where the wellstream is separated before being transferred to SOCAR’s Oil Rocks facilities for further processing and export.
The Full Field development will raise output to 6 bcm/y and 47,000 b/d, with start-up expected in 2029.
Four new subsea wells will export production to shore through a subsea pipeline fitted with advanced automation solutions, TotalEnergies said, and will be processed at a new onshore plant.
This will be fully electrified and designed to minimize energy consumption, with projected scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions for the development of less than 4 kg CO2e/boe.
Gas will be sent to Azerbaijan’s domestic market and exported to Turkey via established infrastructure connecting Azerbaijan to the European gas market.
