HOUSTON -- Shell has launched the Perdido spar hull.

The mid-section of the floating production unit is en route from Technip's fabrication yard in Pori, Finland to Ingleside, Texas on the Gulf Coast where it will be outfitted for installation.

The spar will be moored by a nine-chain and polyester-rope configuration on the Great White field in Alaminos Canyon block 857 in about 8,000 ft (2,438 m) of water.

First production is expected by the end of 2009.

Shell operates the Perdido project with a 35% working interest. Partners are BP (27.5%) and Chevron (37.5%).
