GE opens Qatar service center

DOHA, Qatar -- GE Oil & Gas has established a Qatar Service Center at the Ras Laffan Support Services Zone.
The 36,000-sq m (387,500.8-sq ft) service center will support application ranging from petrochemical services to LNG. The center will also provide customers with the first GE re-manufacturing capabilities for compressors in the Middle East.
"This facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City will represent a significant step in our overall industry and energy plan," says H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, deputy prime minister and minister of energy and industry for Qatar. "The growth of Qatar is moving at a tremendous pace and the support of international companies such as GE assists us in developing our growth strategy."
According to Ayman Khattab, GE Oil & Gas general manager of global services for the Middle East, new technologies will allow the center to help minimize unit downtime, increase efficiency and maximize the life of equipment units. The center will foster technology transfer and local talent development, as well as creating new employment opportunities and maximizing local procurement in Qatar, he says.
