HOUSTON -- MHD Offshore Group has acquired the "sea tensioner" riser tensioner technology from WorleyParsons Sea.
The sea tensioner is a deck-mounted, pull style, riser tensioning system designed for dry tree floating platforms or vessels in water depths to 10,000 ft (3,048 m). MHD says the system can be used on either drilling or production risers with strokes to 60 ft (18 m) and tension capacity more than 2,500 kips.
According to MHD, the sea tensioner design works for ultra deepwater rigs in mild to hostile environments. It is above the wave zone and there is no exposure to direct wave loads, and the design doesn't drive the deck height. The cylinders are out of the load path and are in tension.
