Technip wins $150-million tieback contract from Petrobras
Petrobras has awarded a contract for Roncador field development work to Technip. The $150-million contract is for engineering, project management, manufacturing, and testing of six flexible pipes. Included are 11 production flowlines, 11 gas lift flowlines, six water injection flowlines, 11 production risers, 11 gas lift risers, and six water injection risers. Technip’s Rio de Janeiro center will do the engineering and project management, and its Vitória plant will manufacture the 142 km (88 mi) of flexible pipe.
The Roncador P-54 project consists of 11 production and six water injection subsea wells, at water depths to 1,740 m (5,709 ft) and connected in direct tie-back to theP-54 FPSO anchored in 1,400 m (4,593 ft) of water.

Sunrise 2000 charter
Petrobras also has awarded Technip a $200-million contract for a four-year charter of its vessel,Sunrise 2000, for laying flexible pipe. The contract has an option for a second four-year period.
Sunrise 2000 is a DP vessel designed to install flexible flowlines and umbilicals in waters to 2,000 m (6,562 ft). The vessel can lay simultaneously three lines, either flowlines or umbilicals, and has built-in carousels providing the vessel with a cargo capacity of 3,775 tons (3,425 metric tons). The vessel is equipped with Technip’s patented vertical lay system, which allows the installation of flexible pipes to a maximum dynamic load of 270 tons (245 metric tons).
TheSunrise 2000 has been under long-term contract with Petrobras since 1995. It has installed subsea pipes on the Roncador, Albacora Leste, Marlim, and Marlim Sul fields.
Hess awards rigless conductor installation
Hess Indonesia (Pangkah) Ltd. has awarded a contract to BJ Tubular Services for rigless conductor installation operations on 14 wells in the Pangkah development. Work has begun on the installation.
BJ plans to use its fleet of hydraulic hammers to pre-install the conductors with deviated drive shoes.
Aker awards corrosion monitoring spools
Aker Kværner Subsea A/S has awarded a contract for 10 in-line spool-based metal loss measurement flow assurance tools to Cormon. The tool will be used in Reliance Industries Ltd.’s deepwater block KG-D6 in the Krishna-Godavari basin off the east coast of India. Cormon will supply the 10 units as pipeline spools in sizes from 8 in. (203 mm) to 24 in. (610 mm) diameter for connection to the Aker Kvaerner subsea production control system. The spools will be installed in water depths from 700 m to 1,700 m (2,297-5,577 ft). Delivery is scheduled for this year.
Cormon’s ring pair corrosion monitoring (RPCM) spools provide real-time internal corrosion monitoring. RPCM spools are in-line, piggable monitors for pipelines and flow lines. The tools give full circumferential corrosion rate measurement plus pressure and temperature.
Oceaneering to supply Shenzi umbilicals
BHP Billiton Ltd. has contracted Oceaneering International Inc. to supply umbilical distribution and connection equipment for the Shenzi field in the Gulf of Mexico.
The contract is for three suction pile-supported umbilical distribution system structures, 40 steel tube flying lead assemblies, junction plates, and associated testing. Each structure includes umbilical termination, hydraulic, and electrical/communication lines that are independently retrievable.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2Q 2007 and to be completed in 1Q 2008.
Shenzi is in the Green Canyon in 4,300 ft (1,311 m) of water. Initial development is designed for seven subsea production wells tied back to a TLP.
Saipem awards ROV contract to DeepOcean
Saipem UK has awarded a letter of intent to DeepOcean UK for ROV and survey services for the Dunbar project. DeepOcean will use the M/VMærsk Responder and M/V Mærsk Recorder on the work.
The M/VMærsk Responder will begin work in April. The M/V Mærsk Recorder is scheduled to be on site in May. Total work will be about 90 vessel days at a contract value of $10.6 million.
“We are very pleased to be involved in this project with Saipem and for the first time be able to combine the resources of our subsidiary CTC Marine Projects and DeepOcean in winning more work for the Group,” says Kåre Johannes Lie, CEO of DeepOcean ASA.
Fiber optics to be installed in Southeast Asia
PT NAP Info Lintas Nusa subsidiary Matrix Networks and Tyco Telecommunications have signed a contract to build an undersea fiber-optic system to connect Jakarta, Batam, and Pontinak in Indonesia to Singapore.
“Indonesia has a rapidly expanding demand for bandwidth and access to the internet,” says Jim Schweigert, general manager of Matrix Networks. “The undersea solution we are deploying with Tyco Telecommunications will serve markets that are now underserved and growing with a system that meets our stringent criteria for capacity, robustness, and flexibility using advanced, proven technologies.”
The design will allow a later connection to Perth, Australia.
