The collaboration involves integration of surface vessels and submarines built by Fincantieri with the resident Hydrone AUV developed by Sonsub, Saipem's subsea technologies subsidiary.

Saipem has qualified and commercialized resident subsea drones for interventions and inspections in water depths of up to 3,000 m, for control and maintenance of subsea infrastructure for major energy companies.

Fincantieri also has underwater development programs for the civil and defense industries, and it has built 180 submarines since 1929.
