LONDON  Deltic Energy is maturing its recently awarded Syros oil prospect in license P2542 in the UK central North Sea, the company said in its latest results statement.

Following analysis of reprocessed seismic data, Deltic now considers Syros a low-risk prospect with estimated P50 resources of 24.5 MMboe and a 58% geological chance of success.

It is close to infrastructure on the Montrose-Arbroath high, 6.5 km to the east, with multiple other offtake opportunities nearby that would allow for a fast-track development. The company plans to bring in a partner via a farm-out process to enable drilling to go ahead.

Deltic views Syros as a simple rotated fault block, with the Fulmar reservoir similar to the adjacent Godwin and Caley fields that produced first hydrocarbons in 2014 and 2017, respectively.

After failing to attract a partner to another prospect in the regionDewar in P2352, Deltic plans relinquish the license at the end of its current term on Sept. 30, but may reapply as part of its bid for new permits under the UK’s forthcoming 33rd Licensing Round.

In the southern UK North Sea, the company is a partner to Shell in P2252, where the Maersk Resilient jackup is due to drill the Zechstein Reef prospect Pensacola in October after completing operations for Shell on a development well in the Dutch sector.

A recent drilling-the-well-on-paper exercise took place involving Shell, Deltic, Maersk and other service companies in The Netherlands to refine the well design and operations, along with a session focused on data acquisition, wireline logging, coring and well testing plans.

Pensacola is northwest of the producing Breagh gas field with estimated resources of 309 Bcf. It is one of the highest impact exploration targets to be drilled in the gas basin in recent years.
