LONDON  Deltic Energy and partner Shell UK have committed to drill the Selene gas prospect in the P2437 license in the southern UK North Sea, offshore northeast England.

According to Deltic, the Selene prospect is one of the largest unappraised structures in the Leman Sandstone fairway of the southern gas basin, with P50 prospective resources of 318 Bcf, and a geological chance of success of 70%.

The UK’s North Sea Transition Authority has been informed of the well decision, which will ease the process of progressing the license into its next phase.

Shell will be appointed operator, having agreed to carry Deltic 75% of the costs of drilling ad testing the well, up to $25 million.

The next phase focus will be on detailed well design, planning, rig procurement and other preparations to support drilling operations.

It follows the partners’ recent confirmation that they would drill the Pensacola gas prospect in the southern North Sea in September.
