LEIDSCHENDAM, the NetherlandsFugro plans to increase its geotechnical testing laboratory capacity in Europe and the US by more than 50%.

The program at laboratories in Wallingford, UK, Brussels, and Houston should shorten turnaround times for test geo-data.

All the facilities have taken delivery of new equipment designed with suppliers to provide project-specific and research-level testing on a commercial scale.

The investment includes more than 100 cyclic and static simple shear and triaxial testing devices designed to ensure representative results across all soil types, including stiff clays, sand, and soft rocks.

Fugro added that around one-third of these devices are capable of measuring soil small strain stiffness parameters, said to be critical for offshore wind farm foundation design.

The laboratories have similar scopes of accreditation, quality management systems and procedures.
