HOUSTON – TechnipFMC has completed its acquisition of the outstanding shares of composite pipe developer Magma Global.

The original purchase of an interest in Magma, in 2018, was taken to combine TechnipFMC’s flexible pipe technology with Magma’s composite capabilities to develop a composite pipe solution for oil and gas and new energy industries.

Magma’s technology allows for the manufacture of thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) using polyether ether ketone (PEEK) polymer, said to be highly resistant to corrosive compounds such as CO2.

A co-development with TechnipFMC, the hybrid flexible pipe (HFP), will be deployed in Brazil’s presalt fields.

PEEK TCP, manufactured by a fully automated robotic system, should also be relevant to carbon capture, utilization and storage and hydrogen transportation, particularly in offshore applications, TechnipFMC claimed, including the company’s Deep Purple offshore energy system.
